ABOUT US

ARRAY Crew provides a community for below-the-line talent from diverse backgrounds and the opportunity to be connected with hiring managers from every major production studio and streaming service.

OUR STORY

ARRAY Crew began with an idea to fill a necessary gap in the hiring practices of the film and television industry. It started with SELMA when director-producer Ava DuVernay noticed that within the status quo of the studio system, there were only a handful of a certain kind of people making films and TV shows. While working hard to diversify the crews of SELMA, A WRINKLE IN TIME and Queen Sugar, the idea for ARRAY Crew was born.

“If you don’t know women and people of color, here are some that you should know” – Ava DuVernay

ARRAY Crew was initially conceived as a nicely bound binder with profiles of below-the-line crew members that could be shared with interested producers and department heads. But soon, the vision took hold with the commitment of every major U.S.-based studio and streamer. A woman-led team was commissioned to create a proprietary online database that launched with thousands of below-the-line crew members and has not stopped growing.

Profiles including grips, lighting directors, production designers, costume designers, sound technicians, production accountants, hairstylists, VFX designers, foley artists, ADR mixers, animal trainers, food stylists, choreographers, scenic painters, toolmen, fabric buyers, stitchers, ADR editors, graphic designers, SFX makeup and more can be found by productions seeking below-the-line crew members

ARRAY Crew began international expansion into Canada in November 2021. Additional countries will be added in the future.
