OUR STORY

ARRAY Crew began with an idea to fill a necessary gap in the hiring practices of the film and television industry. It started with SELMA when director-producer Ava DuVernay noticed that within the status quo of the studio system, there were only a handful of a certain kind of people making films and TV shows. While working hard to diversify the crews of SELMA, A WRINKLE IN TIME and Queen Sugar, the idea for ARRAY Crew was born.

“If you don’t know women and people of color, here are some that you should know” – Ava DuVernay

ARRAY Crew was initially conceived as a nicely bound binder with contact information for below-the-line crew members that could be shared with interested producers and department heads. But soon, the vision took hold with the commitment of every major U.S.-based studio and streamer. A woman-led executive team was commissioned to create a proprietary online database that launched in 2021 with thousands of qualified below-the-line crew professionals.

From development to distribution, ARRAY Crew offers 650 job titles across documentary, animation, unscripted, live events and news.

ARRAY Crew is available in 70 cities across the United States and Canada.
