ABOUT

Leah is a Los Angeles-based Cinematographer. She holds a Masters of Fine Arts in Cinematography from The American Film Institute Conservatory. Leah has lent her expertise in lighting, composition and camera work to several features, as well as numerous shorts, series, and commercials. Leah won a Cinematography Fellowship from Film Independent’s Project Involve. She was awarded an ASC mentorship with renowned cinematographer Michael Goi, ASC though this program. Leah is an alumnus of the ASC’s Master Class Workshop.

Her formal education in cinematography, combined with her military upbringing and extensive travels, gives Leah her breadth of knowledge, technical prowess, and the ability to think on her feet. Her interests in still photography and painting inform her work and contribute to her unique perspective as a filmmaker. Leah brings the sum of this rich background to each new project she approaches.

Shooting on both digital and film, Fellows have the chance to work on 28 films a year and produce a 35mm visual essay. AFI gives them unprecedented access to lighting workshops and practical seminars taught by master-level cinematographers.

Trinity's program in International Affairs offers an interdisciplinary major and minor to undergraduate students. Students enrolled in the International Affairs program gain knowledge and analytical skills that will enable them to respond to urgent, worldwide needs for informed citizen awareness and active citizen engagement in contemporary global issues. The program in International Affairs involves faculty from such disciplines as business, communication, economics, geography, history, political science, and sociology, all of whom have strong interest and involvement in international issues. The major and minor combine work in the classroom with opportunities to move beyond the traditional curriculum and make optimal use of the University's location in one of the world's leading international cities.

The ASC Masterclass

The American Society of Cinematography

Designed for cinematography students with an intermediate-to-advanced skill set, the ASC Master Class incorporates practical, hands-on demonstrations of lighting and camera techniques with essential instruction in current workflow practices and informed analysis of feature films that are relevant to the coursework. Larwrence Sher, ASC leads a discussion on the use of his Shotdeck visualization tool during a 2019 Master Class session that focused on shooting commercials. Enrolling in the ASC Master Class will enable you to hone your craft while making valuable professional connections that can jump-start your career. Prominent Society members and associates serve as instructors during the five-day course, offering invaluable insights not only on the creative aspects of the cinematographer’s profession, but on business-related topics as well. Subjects covered in every class include: • Lighting and camera techniques for both narrative and commercial projects • Seamlessly incorporating visual effects into live-action footage • Fine-tuning your projects in postproduction • Making the right connections to open new doors and advance your career • Tactfully handling job politics, both on and off the set • Sourcing experienced, industry-savvy mentors • Finding the right agent and/or manager to promote your work Specialized Instruction Some of the curriculum varies, depending on the instructor’s area of expertise. Specialized instruction might cover such subjects as commercial product lighting or greenscreen cinematography, for example. Instruction takes place at the ASC Clubhouse in Hollywood and at nearby production and postproduction facilities. All necessary equipment is provided. Enrollment in each ASC Master Class is limited to 24. Applicants must submit a current résumé in order to be considered.

Project Involve Fellowship

Film Independent

Project Involve program provides invaluable hands-on filmmaking experience from pre-production through premiere. Participants are paired with mentors at the top of their respective fields, and receive personalized guidance to help move their projects and careers forward. Each year, 30 filmmakers from diverse backgrounds are given the opportunity to hone skills, form creative partnerships, create short films and gain industry access needed to succeed as working artists. Project Involve offers career-changing opportunities and experiences. Mentorship — Working industry professionals share knowledge and give guidance on craft and career. Conversations — Ten master workshops offer insight on the art and business of filmmaking. Short Films — Fellows are given resources to produce short films that debut at a special premiere event. Events — Fellows attend Film Independent's signature education programs, screenings, networking events and more. Fellowships — Fellows may be selected to receive cash grants from industry sponsors. Each year we support a new, inclusive group of filmmakers with unique visions and diverse perspectives. Project Involve not only accepts writers and directors; we also invite producers, cinematographers, editors, animators, executives, programmers and critics from underrepresented communities to apply. Real, valuable filmmaking experience is at the heart of our program. Film Independent provides script consultation and individualized mentorship, equipment, and casting and post-production services to facilitate the development of Fellows' shorts. In addition to a cash production grant, filmmakers are provided with resources for raising additional funds that will help bring their projects to fruition. Notable Project Involve shorts include Liberty (2019 SXSW Narrative Short Film Jury Award) and Emergency (2018 Sundance Special Jury Award). Watch previously produced Project Involve Shorts. Real, valuable filmmaking experience is at the heart of our program. Film Independent provides script consultation and individualized mentorship, equipment, and casting and post-production services to facilitate the development of Fellows' shorts. In addition to a cash production grant, filmmakers are provided with resources for raising additional funds that will help bring their projects to fruition. Strong consideration is given to those whose work samples and statements of interest demonstrate talent, responsibility and collaborative effort. Film Independent Membership is required to participate in Project Involve and Fellows must reside in Los Angeles for the duration of the program.
