When supervising sound editor Gwendolyn Yates Whittle accepted her career achievement award on Feb. 26 at the 70th Motion Picture Sound Editors’ Golden Reel Awards, she was only the third woman to do so. “I’m hoping to start a trend of more women getting more recognition,” Yates Whittle, who worked on Avatar: The Way of Water (for which she received her third Oscar nomination) and Top Gun: Maverick, tells THR. “There are a lot of fantastic female sound editors out there. We should be a bigger club.”
